I've Been Missing Out.........

I have had some great photo ops lately, but everytime I grab my camera the batteries are dead. I have two sets of rechargeable batteries that will not hold a charge. I can take pictures the same day I replace the batteries but the very next day the camera is dead and the back up ones are dead too!
For example, two days ago we had a dozen Canadian geese (who were just casually strolling up the middle of our street) stop to have breakfast and a little rest in our front yard. It was so cool! I grabbed my camera to take a pic, and of course it's dead!
Kylie was going nuts at the front window barking and wining at the geese, but Taryn and Payton were just fascinated and just sat there and watched the geese do their thing. The geese were watching us through the window too. I think they were used to being fed by humans because I was eating dry cereal out of a bowl and one goose looked like he was waiting for me to toss him one. They were in our yard for about 20 minutes and then got up and walked off down the street.
A couple hours later I took the girls on a walk and the slow poke geese were only at the end of our street. I said "look, there's those birds!" and the dogs sped up a little bit. The geese got nervous and walked a little faster, then faster, then faster, and then all 12 took off in flight. It was cool to see. We have a lot of Canadian geese here in Denver and I just love them. It's fun to see them in the parks, and in peoples yards, but the best is seeing them in flight. I love their "honk" too!
The next morning the geese strolled by the house... but didn't stop. Off to greener yards I guess. Wish I had some photos to share. I need to get the camera some new batteries.

Jamie

Flower Pup Reunion!

I'm so excited! I know it's six months away, but one of Payton's blood sisters Mommy wants to get together for a flower pup reunion on their 2nd birthday (July 6th). If you have been with our blog since the beginning you know that Payton was rescued from Safe Harbor Lab Rescue and she was one of 5 female pups that were all named after flowers, Payton was Violet (we kept that as her middle name). I wanted to get all the flower pups together last Summer but didn't get on it in time. I am just giddy at the prospect of seeing Payton with her blood sisters. We were contacted by the flower pups adoption coordinator, Marie. She is the special lady that devotes her spare time, after her 80 hour a week job, to volunteer with rescue dogs. She is no longer with safe harbor, but is now involved in volunteering for a large dog rescue. She adopted a gorgeous female black lab before she left safe harbor and I am hoping Marie and Shiloh will attend the reunion.

By the way... one of the 22 yellow labs that starred in Marley and Me, Brodie, is a safe harbor alum. We have not seen the movie yet. I went through alot of tissue when I read the book and Mark is worried I will embarrass him by crying uncontrolably in the theater. Might just have to wait till the DVD and I can sob in the privacy of my own home.

Peace,
Jamie

If You Are What You Eat.......

Then Payton would be a Turkey sandwich! Wait, No, she would be a fillet mignon, raw and perfectly seasoned waiting to be put on the grill. Yep, Payton has been guilty of counter surfing. Both times Mark's meal fell victim to her stealth maneuvers and shark like jaws. She strikes fast and mercilessly. Mark left the kitchen very briefly on both occasions only to return to an empty plate and Payton licking her chops in satisfaction. I think she ate a banana peel off the counter once as well. I couldn't be 100% on that one, I may have thrown it away and just forgot. Luckily she hasn't had an episode of counter surfing for a while, and we learned to put our plates on top of the toaster oven when we leave the room. : -)

Happy New Year Everyone!

Jamie

Yeah! More Snow!

Yesterday I took this picture of the girls chillin out on the couch together. They give me the worst faces and body language when I try to get them to pose for me. When I snuck up on the moment with my camera it was much more precious.

Last night we got a pretty good amount of snow so I took some pictures of them playing in the fresh snow this morning. The shot of all 3 of the girls shows Kylie in the corner scaring away a squirrel. I had to laugh when I looked at the individual shots I took of them. They look like mug shots! Top to bottom is Payton, Taryn, and Kylie. See what I mean? They don't like the camera in their face.

I get such a kick watching them play in the snow. We can all relate to that childhood exuberance after a good snow fall, especially if school was cancelled too!
Hope everyone is taking the time to have some fun this holiday season!
Peace,
Jamie

Happy Thanksgiving

Hi all! I know this is a few days late, but I wanted to wish my friends and family a happy thanksgiving.
I don't have time to post much today. Payton, Kylie, and Taryn are all healthy, happy, and hyper. We have had a little bit of snow the last few days and the dogs are currently romping in the back yard enjoying it. Payton seems like she has fully recovered from her accident and is making up for lost play time with her sisters.
Gotta run, have a great day!

Peace,
Jamie

One Week Checkup

I took Payton to the vet yesterday morning for her one week check up since we brought her home from the emergency vet. She got a really thorough exam and everything sounded and looked good. Her lungs both sounded good, her heart sounded good, and her ribs and legs all felt good. She got her staples out and had blood work done, which came back normal. When the vet was examining her she said "I can't believe she didn't loose any teeth." Well, upon further examination, she has a broken front tooth in her top row of teeth. It's not one of her canines, which is good. Since her blood work came back normal I will be taking her in tomorrow morning so that they can put her under in the afternoon and pull her tooth. I will be picking her up after five and hopefully that will be the last vet visit for this incident. Having her tooth pulled seems like a bummer, but we're just happy she lucked out and didn't have to have surgery for internal bleeding.

I ended up taking Taryn on a separate trip to the vet because her left ear has been bugging her and was all red inside. Turns out she has an ear infection that needed treatment. I had just given Payton her last dose of meds on Monday night, and they sent me home Tuesday morning with a handful of meds to start treating Taryn. We had Kylie at the vet a couple of days before Payton's accident because she had some sort of virus and was vomiting uncontrollably. So that makes all three dogs with health issues in the last two weeks. I am happy to report that all three girls are doing great today. Payton even went out on her first walk since she was hit and didn't seem to get tired. She looked like she wanted to head out again after I returned with Taryn from her walk.

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Peace,
Jamie

First Snowfall Fall 2008

We have our first snowfall this morning. It's always fun to wake up to a snowy scene. Kind of weird that we are just now getting snow on 11/14. The problem is that all of our labs love water, especially the white frozen kind. Kylie grabbed a tennis ball and tried to start getting Payton to chase her. I had to put the brakes on that. I brought Payton inside and she stood by the door and pouted. Kylie is really missing her play time with Payton too. She tries to entice Taryn into chasing her and playing "Labrador Gladiators", but Taryn isn't really interested in that kind of play. I feel bad for our "litttles" (that's our nickname for Kylie and Payton). I can't wait till we can let them go crazy in the snow and crack up while we watch from inside with a warm cup of coffe. Take care everyone!

Peace,
Jamie
